Drinking Water Supply A Hot Topic For Election Debate In Casselman

The future of the drinking water supply dominated Wednesday night’s election debate in Casselman.Currently, the village’s water comes from the South Nation River, but the growth of the municipality and the risk of drought raise concerns such as manganese. Two solutions are proposed: modernize the existing facilities or switch to the Clarence-Rockland system, which is fed by the Ottawa River, but the estimated cost varies from $90 million to $100 million. Mayoral candidate François Richard is instead proposing a connection to Limoges, estimated at between $15 million and $20 million. For their part, Geneviève Lajoie and Paul Groulx are counting on financial assistance from the province. Citizens now want to know the real costs that the municipality will have to assume.
