Students at École élémentaire catholique Elda-Rouleau in Alexandria have a new place to lace up their skates, thanks to a community effort that has brought a new outdoor skating rink to the school grounds.
The school recently celebrated the official opening of the rink, which will provide students with more opportunities to enjoy skating, hockey and other outdoor winter activities.
The new facility is expected to become an important part of the school’s physical education and recreational programs, encouraging students to stay active, develop their skating skills and enjoy Canada’s favourite winter pastime.
But the rink isn’t just for students. It’s also intended to serve the wider Alexandria community, creating another gathering place where families, friends and young hockey enthusiasts can enjoy time outdoors during the winter months.
The project was made possible through strong community involvement, demonstrating what can be accomplished when local residents and supporters work together to improve recreational opportunities for young people.
The official opening also included a special tribute to the late Alain “Ti-Bert” Larocque, a familiar and respected figure in the Alexandria community.
A commemorative plaque honouring Larocque was unveiled during the ceremony, ensuring his name and memory will remain connected to a facility that will bring enjoyment to future generations.
The tribute adds a personal touch to the project, recognizing the importance of remembering individuals who have been part of the community’s history.
For École élémentaire catholique Elda-Rouleau, the rink represents more than an addition to the schoolyard. It provides another opportunity to bring students and residents together while promoting physical activity, teamwork and community spirit.
With winter approaching, the new rink is expected to become a welcome addition to Alexandria’s recreational facilities, giving local children another reason to get outside and enjoy the season.
