The Municipality of Casselman is raising concerns about an increase in vandalism at several of its parks and recreational facilities, including Richelieu Park.
In a message to residents, the Municipality says the damage caused by these incidents takes time and money to repair, with the costs ultimately falling on local taxpayers.
Officials are also warning that repeated incidents could have a bigger impact on the community. If vandalism continues, some recreational equipment may have to be temporarily removed or could be left unreplaced for a period of time.
The Municipality says these facilities are there for everyone to enjoy, and damage to public property affects the entire community by taking away resources that could otherwise be used to maintain and improve local parks.
Residents who witness suspicious activity or vandalism are being encouraged to report it to the Ontario Provincial Police through its non-emergency line.
The Municipality is asking everyone to do their part in helping protect Casselman’s public spaces and recreational facilities.
